The first British Milers Club (BMC) Grand Prix of the season takes place this Saturday at Sportcity in Manchester.
The event features races from 800m up to 5,000m on track, led off by pacemakers to achieve faster times, and has a strong history of athletes achieving qualification for the Olympic Games and other major tournaments.
Among the notable entries lining up this weekend are European under-20 1500m champion Jemma Reekie, and Canaan Solomon, who won bronze at the same event in Italy last summer over 800m.
Two athletes expected to feature in Manchester impressed last weekend on their way to winning 800m gold medals at the BUCS Outdoor Athletics Championships. Daniel Rowden, who lowered his personal record to 1:46.64 last year, is the reigning European under-23 silver medalist.
Mari Smith, who has represented Great Britain at the European Cross Country Championships in the past, managed 2:03 for the first time at BUCS, and showed impressive versatility by also taking home 4x400m silver.
Across the 2017 season, more than 3,000 of the 6,202 finishers in BMC races set new personal records, an impressive 48 per cent success rate.
